The Blue Datto Foundation is hosting a Charity Golf Day at Richmond Golf Club on Friday, September 28.
Funds from the day will go towards a team of kayakers from the Hawkesbury who are preparing to race over 400km down the Murray River in November as part of the 2018 Massive Murray Paddle, all while supporting Blue Datto and the safety of young drivers across NSW.
Limited places are still available for the two-player Ambrose competition on the day. Breakfast is included before tee off, and the day consists of 18 holes of golf, cart and a sit down lunch at the end of the day’s play. A $20,000 hole in one prize is also on offer for golfers who have the skills to do so!
The Blue Datto Foundation raises funds to provide road safety programs and education to young drivers throughout NSW. Their flagship program, ‘Keeping Safe’, was established in 2014 and uses peer mentoring to give high school students practical skills to help keep them safe on the road.
The charity was established following the tragic death of 17 year old Philip Vassallo, who was affectionately known as ‘the kid in the Blue Datto.’ Philip lost his life in an accident in which both drivers were red ‘P’ platers. Blue Datto aims to have their ‘Keeping Safe’ program available in all schools in NSW, creating a positive change to the culture of young drivers in NSW.
Blue Datto founder Colleen Vassallo said that she is looking forward to seeing the Hawkesbury community come together for the event.
‘We hope that participants will enjoy the day and help us raise funds towards promoting road safety and education for young people,’ she said.
Just $20 allows one Year 10 student to participate in the Keeping Safe Program. The aim of the Charity Golf Day and Massive Murray Paddle is to raise $24,000.
Funds are being raised on the day through ticket sales, fun games throughout the day silent auction and raffle prizes from a wide range of sponsors including GWS Giants, Drummond Golf, Sydney Roosters, Captain Cook Cruises and Sydney FC.
