Richmond Club has advocated the Hawkesbury as a viable tourism destination for domestic and international travellers alike. Nestled between major tourist regions in the Sydney Metropolitan Area and the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury has a great deal of untapped potential that could be used to encourage visitors to the area and increase spending in our communities.

Wanderest Travellers Park

Our involvement with tourism began with the launch of Wanderest in 2010. The travellers park for members taps into the $7 billion camping and caravanning sector, and attracts travellers and grey nomads from all over the country and beyond. Wanderest is frequently booked to capacity, so much so that plans to extend the park and increase the number of powered sites have been approved and will commence in the coming year. More people staying the park means more money being spent at Hawkesbury businesses, a win-win scenario for everyone involved.

Travel Club update from organiser Peter Minigle:

“Hi all,

The mystery Tour last Saturday was a great success. The first venue was the Small Arms Factory at Lithgow where we enjoyed a Devonshire Morning Tea before the inspection of the machinery and Museum. We departed Lithgow and made our way to the Penrith Paceway for our second venue, lunch. After lunch a short stroll across to the Printing Museum where we learnt the history of printing from the many volunteers.

Our next tour is the HiTea in August.  The next meeting is August 6th.

Work on the Silos to the Sea for 2020 is progressing well and apart from 2 motels all have been booked and going as planned, even the Mildura Grand Hotel, a step back in time, a fabulous property right in the centre of the town. It looks like the cost will be $2,400 ppts. This includes 10 Silo viewings, Dunera Museum, Shear Outback, Mildura Chocolate Factory, Murray River Cruise with lunch, Trentham Estate Winery, Stawell Gift Museum, Grampians Mountain Range, Flagstaff Hill Village, Port Fairy, Flagstaff Hill Light and Sound Show, Great Ocean Road, The Apostles, Narana Aboriginal Culture Centre, Nation Wool Museum, Echuca old town and River Cruise, Lake Mulwala Lunch Cruise and finishing at the fabulous Siesta resort.  Expressions of interest are being asked for with the tour opening in October.

We still have a seat available on the Tasmania tour this October but please hurry if interested. $3,995 ts.

Peter”

Golf Hawkesbury

Golf Hawkesbury was also launched with the assistance of the Hawkesbury’s leading golf clubs, and was successfully marketed to an international audience at the Australian Tourism Exchange. By uniting the Hawkesbury’s outstanding courses into a neat ‘tour’ package, the potential for overnight and longer stay visitors, particularly from Asia, is enormous. Richmond Golf Club, part of the Richmond Club Group, is proud to be the oldest course in NSW.

While many changes are occurring throughout your club, our goals for the wider community remain the same. Through developing tourism in the Hawkesbury, we hope to bring part of the revolution happening in Australia here to our local region for residents and businesses alike to reap the rewards.
